How to Convert Fog Lights to Turn Signals
by John Waiksnis Jr.

Introduction

If you've installed a new KITT or KARR front nose on your Firebird, then you have probably covered up your existing front turn signals (unless you have a 1991-92 Firebird). Driving without front turn signals is not street legal, and it will probably get you into an accident or make other drivers angry at you. A good solution to this problem is to convert fog lights (which can be mounted in the nostrils under the custom noses) into amber turn signals.

Step 1

Purchase a fog/driving light set (Walmart has them for about $16 to $18), a turn signal socket, and an amber bulb (the socket and bulb can be found at an auto parts store).

You will also need metal clippers, an electric drill with about a 5/8 inch bit, a Philips screwdriver, paintable caulking, black spray paint, your favorite drink, and car keys so you can drive yourself to the doctor ( just kidding ).

Step 2

Take apart light set and keep the extra wires and light bulb as a spare for your other fog lights. Use the metal clippers to cut the hole in the metal reflector dish larger so that the turn signal socket can fit through (but not too large, you don't need the bulb to fit through). Be careful, this metal can be sharp.

Then drill a hole in the plastic outer housing and cut the hole large enough so the socket will fit (but not so big that the bulb will go though).

Step 3

Put the socket through the back of the outer housing and attach the metal reflector dish on the front. Here is what it should look like: (ignore the bulb)

Now caulk the metal reflector dish and socket to the outer housing so that no moisture can get in and so the socket stays in place. When the caulk is dry, you can use the black spray paint to cover it up.
